Global Stories, Local Heart

Gravesend Returns: Season 3 Brings Brooklyn Back to the Screen

Brooklyn has a way of staying with you.

Its neighborhoods, its people, its businesses, and the stories passed down from one generation to the next become part of who you are. That feeling is at the heart of Gravesend, the Brooklyn-based crime drama returning this Friday, September 25, 2026, for its third season on Amazon Prime Video.

Created, written, and directed by Brooklyn native William DeMeo, the series is produced by Michele Frantzeskos and executive produced by Shaquille O’Neal.

Gravesend takes viewers back to late-1980s Brooklyn, where family, loyalty, faith, and organized crime often exist side by side.

For DeMeo, however, the series has always been about more than telling a mob story.

He began writing Gravesend nine years ago, building a world inspired by the Brooklyn he knew and the people who helped shape it. Throughout the series, he has also made a point of recognizing local businesses and members of the community, giving them a name, a face, and a place within the production. In many ways, that is what makes Gravesend feel different.

Brooklyn is not simply used as scenery. It becomes part of the story.

“I am very proud of where I am from,” DeMeo said. “To have a notable figure such as Shaq coming to the neighborhood, embracing it, and talking to the public is an incredible feeling,” he continued.

The inclusion of local restaurants, neighborhood businesses, familiar faces, and enduring community ties provides the series with an authenticity that is difficult to replicate.

Season 3 continues the story of Benny Zerletta, played by DeMeo, an Italian American trying to navigate the complicated line between family and the criminal world surrounding him.

The new season picks up in 1987 after a violent attack on Benny and pulls viewers deeper into a world of shifting loyalties, new alliances, and struggles for power.

The cast alone brings decades of New York film, television, and cultural history with it.

Season 3 features Chazz Palminteri, Armand Assante, Tony Danza, Talia Shire, Dominic Chianese, Vincent Curatola, Tony Darrow, Chuck Zito, Peter Gaudio, Paul Borghese, Christian DeMeo, and Joseph D’Onofrio, along with several other familiar faces.

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal also joins the series as Mustafa, a powerful character connected to Bedford-Stuyvesant. Hip-hop artists Big Daddy Kane, Maino, and Peter Gunz bring another layer of New York culture into the season.

Season 3 also carries emotional significance.

The late Vincent Pastore appears as Donnie Glisto in what has been described as his final television performance. For those who followed Pastore’s career and recognized the warmth he brought beyond the characters he portrayed, his appearance gives this season an even deeper meaning.

At its core, Gravesend may be a crime drama, but its strongest themes are much more personal. It is about family. It is about loyalty. It is about faith.

And it is about what happens when the life you were raised to believe in collides with the world around you.

That conflict continues through Benny Zerletta, whose Catholic upbringing and devotion to family constantly push against his involvement in the Colezzo crime family.

For nearly a decade, DeMeo has continued building this story while bringing attention back to the neighborhoods and businesses that helped shape Brooklyn. In doing so, he has created more than a television series. He has created a space where Brooklyn is seen, remembered, and recognized.

For people who grew up here, there is something special about seeing a familiar street, a neighborhood business, or even a face you recognize appear on screen.

It reminds you that Brooklyn's stories are worth telling.

And today, another chapter begins.
